1916 ~ 2008

MINERSVILLE: Our beloved father and grandfather, Marshall Hollingshead, the oldest man in Minersville, passed away January 18, 2008 at the age of 92 in the Beaver Valley Hospital.

He was born Jan. 9, 1916 in Minersville, Utah to Stephen B. and Alta L. Marshall Hollingshead. He dearly loved his parents and spoke highly of them throughout his life. He loved growing up as a "Punkin Roller" in Minersville, his ancestral home, working on the farm and swimming in the creek. He graduated from Minersville High School in 1934 where he served as Student Body President and captain of the basketball team. He attended BAC (Now SUU) where he made All-Conference in football and graduated from Utah State in Logan where his basketball team won 2nd place in the All-Church Tournament. While serving in World War II he met a beautiful girl from Heber City named Nellie Duke in Victorville, CA. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 20, 1944.

Their 10 children survive this union: Kenneth and Debbie Hollingshead, Duke and Jill Hollingshead, Chad and Valerie Hollingshead, Tammy and David Fairhurst, all of Minersville; Marsha and the late Clyde Harding, Doris and Boyd Hall all of Cedar City; Neal and JoDene Hollingshead of Dietrich, ID;

Madelyn and Doug Nielson of Laie, HI; Katie Hollingshead of Beaver; and Janette and Joe Hiskey of Fremont. He is also survived by a sister, Reva Albrecht, brothers-in-law Marden and Gioconda Duke and Jim Carlson. He and Nellie have 51 grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Marshall was a farmer and taught school for 25 years in Minersville and Beaver. He served on the Minersville Town Board and was a secretary of the Minersville Irrigation Co. for 54 years. He was a member of the LDS Church and served faithfully as Bishop of the Minersville Ward from 1955-1965, scoutmaster, high counselor and many other callings. One of the highlights of his life was serving an LDS mission to Hawaii with his beloved Nellie in 1988. Marshall was a great hunter and fisherman and loved sports, but mostly he loved being with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Stoyell, George, Sy, Curly, and Thurlow, sister, Viva, son-in-law Clyde Harding, grandchildren: Craig, Derrik and Marieka Hollingshead, and great- grandchild Aubrey Emory.
