Six people died on Utah's roadways in the past several days.
In Provo at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, a 23-year-old man was on a motorcycle headed west on 800 North near 300 West, said Provo Police Capt. Cliff Argyle. A car turned left at 300 West and struck the motorcycle. The Orem driver said he didn't see the motorcycle.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, died at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Earlier Tuesday, at 5:30 a.m., a crash happened on U.S. 191 about 15 miles north of Monticello. The UHP said five people were in a 1992 Toyota Corolla that tried to pass a semi and came upon another car in the oncoming lane.
"The driver tried to take evasive action and swerve back behind the semi," UHP trooper Cameron Roden said.
The Corolla hit the semi's rear trailer and rolled. Four people, ranging in age from 8 to 32, were injured. A passenger, 24-year-old Phillotino Nez of Cortez, Colo., was killed.
"They do believe alcohol to be a contributor," Roden said.
On I-70 in a remote part of Grand County, the body of a Colorado man was discovered in the wreckage of a car Monday morning. The car had gone off the road and down an embankment.
"It looks like at the time of the crash, there possibly may have been some weather conditions and wet roads," Roden said Tuesday.
The car is believed to have gone off the left shoulder, hitting a post. The driver swerved back to the right and the car started to spin, when it slid off the roadway and rolled down the embankment. The driver, identified as Muneeb Kamal, 23, of Glendale, Colo., was ejected from the car and died of head injuries, the UHP said.
In Emery County, an 81-year-old California man was killed in a crash near Ferron.
The crash occurred about 9:50 p.m. Monday when the man's car went off the right shoulder of the road. The driver overcorrected and went off the left side of the road, rolling.
The driver, identified as Sammy Vasquez, 81, died of injuries at Castle View Hospital. The passenger, 51-year-old Joanna Hernandez Sanders, remains hospitalized.
In Box Elder County, a Tremonton man was killed in a crash when he tried to avoid hitting a deer.
The UHP said Curtis Kaneko, 54, was driving on state Route 13 on Friday when he took evasive action to avoid hitting a deer. The animal hit the right corner of his 1993 Honda Civic, sending him off the road and rolling. The UHP said Kaneko was ejected and the vehicle landed on top of him.
Police on Tuesday released the name of a Taylorsville woman killed in a freeway accident early Sunday morning.
Consuelo Alcala, 23, died after her car rolled off of I-215 near 1500 South. Witnesses said they saw the vehicle leave the roadway and roll down an embankment before coming to rest in a church parking lot. Alcala was ejected and died at the scene.
