Classes on military ancestry research

The Family History Library is offering an all-day series of classes that can help military-ancestryresearch today beginning at 9:15 a.m. Topics include: "U.S. Military Records 1775-1860," "U.S. Civil War Records," and "U.S. WWI & WWII Records."

Become more acquainted with Native American ancestry by attending research series and learning from the experts at the LDS Family History Library on Saturday, Nov. 22.

St. Ambrose plans Christmas boutique

Juan Diego club presents film fest

Juan Diego Human Rights International Club continues its film festival featuring documentary films on human rights violations today with "Critical Condition" and "Blue is for Roseline." Jewish Arts Festival is today, Sunday

The Jewish Arts Festival begins today from 6:45-10 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center, 2 N. Medical Drive. There will be a Havdallah service (which signifies the end of Shabbat), a Middle Eastern tasting, Israeli Artwork and a Folk concert by Phillip Bimstein and "Blue Haiku." The main Festival is on Sunday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. and is free to the public. There will be performers, artists, food vendors, organizations and synagogues that will all make this festival a memorable event for all who attend. Reception set for Methodist bishop

Nativity scenes on display at museum

This holiday season, visitors to the LDS Church History Museum in downtown Salt Lake City will have the chance to view a world-class collection of 50 hand-crafted Polish Nativity scenes on loan from Walter Whipple, Professor of Slavic Languages at Brigham Young University.

This Christmas exhibit, "The Birth and Childhood of Our Lord, Jesus Christ: Folk Art from Poland," will be on display in the Church History Museum from Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Jan. 25.

A comprehensive representation of the birth of Jesus Christ, the exhibit consists of traditional wood carvings and back-painted-glass images of the Nativity story; including Annunciation of the Virgin Mary, Mary with the Christ child, the three wise men, the presentation in the temple, and the flight of the Holy Family into Egypt.

The Christmas season at the Museum will officially begin on Dec. 6 with a dance performance provided by the Pioneer Heritage Company in conjunction with The Blue Sage Band entitled, "A Pioneer Christmas Time for Dancing. Tickets for the theater performance can be obtained at www.lds?.org/events, through Temple Square Ticketing.

The Church History Museum will also celebrate the birthday of the prophet Joseph Smith.

Mulsims in Italy topic of lecture

The Italian Center of the West will present "Muslims in Italy and Turkey-European Union Relations Present Situation and Future Developments," on Thursday, Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m. at Homewood Suites by Hilton , 423 W. 300 South. Lighting ceremony for Nativity project

The Nativity Project in Layton will hold its second annual lighting ceremony for the Nativity on Sunday, Nov. 23, 5:30 p.m. The event will include carols and other Christmas activities, on private property adjacent to the Layton City's park property at 448 Constitution Circle. The public is invited. After receiving donations, the project was able to purchase three wise man figures, completing its 16-piece display. The Nativity will be on display each night from Nov. 23 through Jan. 2.

Interfaith choir ?to sing 'Messiah'

An interfaith choir will present Handel's 'Messiah' for the holidays for the 17th year.

The concert will be on Sunday, Nov. 30, 7 p.m., at Olympus High School, 4055 S. 2300 East. This choir will also sing during services at Holladay United Church of Christ, 2631 E. Murray-Holladay Road, on Nov. 30, 11 a.m. For more information, call 277-2631.

LDS plan Christmas event for Latinos

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will hold this year's Latino Christmas program, Dec. 5-6 in the Tabernacle on Temple Square. The program, titled "Recibid al Rey," (Receive the King) is a festive celebration for the entire family. Composed of music, dance, and narration, the program portrays a Latin American Christmas custom known as "las Posadas." Also included in the program is a special Christmas message by a general authority of the Church. The program is presented entirely in Spanish with translation available via headsets in English and Portuguese. The event is free to the public but tickets are required. Tickets may be obtained online at www.lds?.org/events or by calling the Conference Center ticket office at 570-0080.
