After four years of service as deputy mayor of Salt Lake County, Karen Suzuki-Okabe will retire on Jan. 5.

"She has been a key adviser and major component of our county government," county Mayor Peter Corroon said in a news release.

Suzuki-Okabe supervised and managed Corroon's communication office as well as intergovernmental relations, community relations and constituent services. She also was the county's representative for various public safety services including Valley Emergency Communication Center, Unified Fire Authority, and the Sheriff's office.

Nicole Adams Dunn, Corroon's intergovernmental relations coordinator, will replace Suzuki-Okabe.

"She has been working hand-in-hand with our local and state officials for the last four years, so the transition will be very smooth," Corroon said.
