Local philanthropist Janet Quinney Lawson, 86, died at her home Christmas night.

Ms. Lawson, born on Feb. 1, 1922, in Salt Lake City to S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney. She supported several charities and arts organizations during her lifetime. Among those benefiting from her financial assistance were Hogle Zoo and the Girl Scouts.

Ms. Lawson was an avid skier, golfer and river runner, and she supported causes to help others appreciate the outdoors in Utah.

In 1944, she married Fredrick R. Lawson, with whom she had three children. The couple later divorced.

Ms. Lawson is survived by two sons, Fredrick Q. Lawson and Peter Q. Lawson, grandchildren, cousins and other relatives. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joanne.

Ms. Lawson's funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mark's Cathedral, 231 E. 100 South. Afterward, a reception will be held in her honor at the Salt Lake Country Club, 2400 Country Club Drive.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those interested to donate to a charitable organization.
