Albert Elias (Bert) Hunt

Albert Elias (Bert) Hunt, age 96, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away in Bountiful, Utah on January 30, 2008, from causes incident to age.He was born in St. George, Utah on October 18, 1911, the fifth child of Zera Pulsipher Terry Hunt and Clarissa Elizabeth Truman Hunt.

His childhood was spent in Enterprise, Washington, St. George, and Veyo, Utah. In 1929, he moved with his parents to Salt Lake City, graduating from East High School in 1932. He married his sweetheart, Mary Jane Smith, in the Salt Lake Temple December 23, 1932. Together they had five daughters and one son. After 49 years of marriage, Mary preceded him in death August 14, 1980.

Bert excelled in sports and earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Utah where he was an All-Conference football player and wrestler. He made the final tryouts for the 1936 US Olympic Wrestling Team. He earned his degree in education and graduated from the U of U in 1936. He taught in the Salt Lake School District; he loved teaching. He taught at Sumner Elementary School, West High School, and Lincoln Jr. High. In addition to being a teacher and coach, he was a dairy farmer, health practitioner, and mineral prospector. Bert was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in various callings. He especially loved to share his faith and testimony with those around him. Together, Bert and Mary served as missionaries in the Ohio Columbus Mission from 1977-78. Bert was very grateful of his ancestry and was actively involved in family history and temple work.

On April 6, 1982, Bert married Marilyn Ream in the Salt Lake Temple. They enjoyed more than 25 years with each other, traveling together in the southern Montana mountains, enjoying the natural beauty. Bert and Marilyn were leadership missionaries to the members of the Liberty 8th Ward in Salt Lake City.

Bert was also called as Bishop of this ward for two years. He and Marilyn dearly loved the people and the opportunity to serve them.

Along with his first wife, Bert was preceded in death by two daughters, Charlene Richards and JoAnn Noorlander. He is survived by his children, Diana Hurley Richards (Stan), Mary Page (Bert), Linda Attwool (Bill), and Zera Hunt (Verneita), 27 grandchildren, 97 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his wife, Marilyn and her seven children, 19 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren.

Bert often said the greatest joy in his life was his family and that he had the greatest family in the world.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 4, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bountiful 10th Ward, 1145 North 200 East, Bountiful, Utah. Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. prior to the services. Interment will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery under the direction of Independent Funeral Services.
