Salt Lake police Friday were looking for a juvenile with rosary beads around his neck and a gun in his waistband, who they say was involved in a bizarre robbery.

Detectives said the boy took money from a group, only to return it a short time later.

Just after 8 p.m. Thursday near 1250 West and 400 South, a boy, believed to be about 13 years old, approached a vehicle with several girls inside.

The boy showed the girls he had a handgun in his waistband and demanded money, said Salt Lake police detective Jeff Bedard. The girls initially told him they didn't have any, but the boy threatened to shoot them. At that point the girls gave him $50, Bedard said.

After the boy rode off on his bike, the girls called police. But while they were on the phone with emergency dispatchers, the boy returned and demanded more money, Bedard said. When the girls said they didn't have any more, the boy returned their $50 and rode off, he said.
