William Fraser Buck
1915 ~ 2008
SALEM, OR- William Fraser Buck, 92, died Sunday, March 8, 2008, in Salem; born May 17, 1915, in Park City, Utah, to Richard Fraser and Florence A. Gwilliam Buck. He
married Ada Dabling, June 22, 1940, in Park City, Utah. The
marriage was solemnized a year later in the Salt Lake LDS
Temple. She passed away Dec. 13, 1986. He then married MelRae Carver May 24, 1991 in the
Oakland LDS Temple. She died Sept. 1, 2005.
Bill graduated from Park City High School and later attended Weber College where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a ham radio enthusiast as a teenager, leading to his service in the Navy. He traveled many parts of the world (northern and southern hemispheres) as a first-class radio operator on the USS West Virginia prior to World War II, 1935-39. He was an
electronics engineer with the CAA/ FAA. He designed and installed air traffic control equipment, navigational aids and communication
systems used at airports throughout the west.
He was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and filled various positions in the High Priest groups. He served as a Seventy President in Ogden and Los Angeles and as secretary in each quorum. He was a scoutmaster,
executive secretary in a bishopric; a stake missionary numerous times in Utah and California; Oakland
temple worker and tour guide; and served a mission at the Toronto
Temple, Canada. Bill was a faithful home teacher his entire adult life.
Bill enjoyed the mountains and loved to hike. He reached the summit of Mount Timpanogos at the age of sixty-six.
He was preceded in death by his wives; a son, George Robert Buck; a grandson, Michael Lee Brown; his parents and step-parents; brothers, Bob Buck, Charlie James; a sister, Janet Kernohan.
Surviving are two sons and three daughters, Ada Ilene (Russ) King, Portland, OR; William Fraser
(Lynette) Buck II, American Fork, UT; David Grant (Lynn) Buck, Orangevale, CA; Lila Gail (Volkert) Lolies, Gardnerville, NV; Colleen Esther (Nathan) Brown, Salem, OR; stepdaughter, Carol King, Murphy, CA; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and three sisters, Kenneth Buck, Austin, TX; Phyllis Kohler, Midway, UT; Margie (Hal) Himes, Brigham City, UT; Florence Haslett, Coeur d' Alene, ID; a special friend of the family, Norman (Monte) Jones.
Funeral service will be held
Monday, March 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. in the Larkin & Sons Mortuary, 496 24th St. Ogden, where friends may call Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment in the Ogden City Cemetery.
