B.N. (Nibs) Meldrum

1922 ~2008

Nibs passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife's beautiful paintings of their many travels.He was born February 25, 1922, in Ogden, Utah, to Thomas Ben Meldrum and Margaret Nibley Meldrum. He graduated from the Pacific Military Academy in Culver City, California in 1939. Nibs attended the University of Utah and was active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received a B.S. degree in Banking and Finance in June of 1943. While at the University, he met his future bride, Grace Durkee and they were married on August 3, 1943, at the First Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City. He was a pilot in the U.S. Army in the European Theatre in World War II. During the war, he was decorated with the Bronze Star and the Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. He received an Honorable Discharge with the Rank of Major. He returned from the war and worked at O.P. Skaggs as Vice President. Later, he owned

Dairy Equipment Company of Utah until his retirement in 1976.

While raising his two sons, with his beloved wife, he was active in the PTA and Cub Scouts. During his retirement, he was a Public Arbitrator for the National Association of Security Dealers for 20 years, and in 2001, he joined the Westminster Aviation Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, and is survived by his sons, Peter D. (Cathie) and Daniel N. (Patty) of Salt Lake City; his grandsons Christopher (Jen) of Durham, NC; and Alexander of Salt Lake City; and his great-grandsons Ian and Colin of Durham, N.C.

Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on April 3, 2008, at the Wasatch Presbyterian Church, 1626 S. 1700 E., Salt Lake City and Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Salt Lake City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Nibs Meldrum Aviation Scholarship at Westminster College or the Grace Meldrum Art Scholarship at the University of Utah.
