May 3: Great Harvest Taylorsville, 5592 S. Redwood Road, is holding a gourmet pancake breakfast to raise money for Camp Hobe. From 8:30-10:30 a.m., the store will serve whole-wheat pancakes and their bread as French toast, all topped with Probst gourmet fruit syrups. May 8-9: The Gateway in Salt Lake City is hosting a free, two-day Health Expo as a ramp-up to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Saturday, May 10, at The Gateway.

As part of it, pink banners can be purchased for $100 and personalized to honor someone affected with breast cancer, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Komen Foundation (call 801-456-0000).

May 9-10: Spring-into-Life Conference, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. each day at the Ogden MegaPlex Theater Conference Center, upstairs. Topics include biofeedback for pain, anxiety, depression and trauma; improving relationship intimacy, communication' energy balancing; healthy nutrition and more. May 13: People who have lost a friend or family member will have an opportunity to gather for a presentation on grief and commemorate the memory of their loved one at the annual Seeds of Remembrance program. Sponsored by Caring Connections: A Hope and Comfort in Grief Program, Seeds of Remembrance will take place at 7 p.m. in the University of Utah College of Nursing auditorium, 10 S. 2000 East.

Gloria Horsley, Ph.D., and Heidi Horsley, Ph.D., co-hosts of the syndicated radio show "Healing the Grieving Heart," are the featured speakers and will address the topic of helping families continue bonds after loss. It's free and the public is invited. For information, call 801-585-9522.

May 15: Women of all ages are invited to the Women's Health Fair at University Health Care's Madsen Health Center, 555 S. Foothill Blvd. The free event, sponsored by the Center of Excellence in Women's Health at the University of Utah, will take place from 5:30-8 p.m.

Attendees can visit 13 rooms, each devoted to a different health issue, and obtain information on that topic, a list of resources for getting help or treatment in that area, and a screening tool to assist with knowing if one is at risk and should seek further advice. Each room will be staffed by a University Health Care physician, nutritionist, physical therapist, nurse or other specialist who can answer questions. Topics include bone health, mental health, heart health, reproductive endocrinology, contraception options, obstetrics and gynecology, headache, physical activity, nutrition, aesthetics, hormone replacement therapy/menopause, massage therapy, adolescent health and more.

May 16: Dr. Patch Adams, the real person behind the movie starring Robin Williams, will present "Living a Life of Joy" at Kingsbury Hall at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 a person, $10 for students, senior citizens and children 5-12 years old. Children under 5 will not be admitted.

Adams was invited to Utah by the Arts in Caring Council, a new nonprofit launched this year to show the valuable role arts play in healing and survivorship and to promote integrating them into the health-care environment.
