Ruth R. Yeaman
1920 ~ 2008
Ruth Reynolds Yeaman, age 88, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 11, 2008, in Salt Lake City. Ruth, the oldest of three children, was born March 19, 1920 to Marlton L. and Rosa Bills Reynolds in New York City.
Ruth was raised in Salt Lake City where she attended Uinta Elementary School, Roosevelt Junior High School and graduated from East High School in 1938. In 1942 Ruth graduated from the University of Utah with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. She later attended the University of Denver where she received a Master of Arts degree in Library Science.
Ruth's greatest interest was reading, which lasted her lifetime. This hobby led her to decide to become a librarian. Her library career started at East High working part time in the school library. She spent the majority of her working life in Special Collections at the Marriott Library on the University of Utah Campus where she eventually became the Librarian in charge of Rare Books. Ruth also worked as a house mother for the girls in the Utah State School for the Deaf and Blind. Ruth loved taking care of these girls and still called them "her girls" whenever she saw them.
Ruth met Jack M. Yeaman at the University of Utah and was later married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 2, 1950. Ruth and Jack had been married nearly 54 years when he passed away on Feb. 9, 2004. Theirs was a marriage made in heaven with time and eternity yet to come. They did everything together, helping each other and those around them throughout their entire lives. Ruth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and worked as Ward Librarian in several different wards during her lifetime. She also volunteered in various church libraries, always giving generously of her time and energy.
Ruth's other hobbies included genealogy, gardening, collecting editions of "The Night before Christmas," bells and stamps. She was an avid reader in many fields and especially enjoyed historical novels.
Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her parents, and one brother, Richard P. Reynolds. Ruth is survived by her sister, Beth R. Sundstrom of Salt Lake City; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends who loved her.
