Dewey C. Bluth

1922 ~ 2008

Dewey C. Bluth, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully May 13, 2008.He was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Colonial Dublan, Chihuahua, Mexico to Carl and Clara Farnsworth Bluth.

He was raised and educated in El Paso, TX. After serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Dewey moved to Provo where he graduated from BYU with a degree in finance and political science. While at BYU he met the love of his life, Joan Maloney. They were married Aug. 25, 1950, in the Salt Lake Temple.

The couple settled in Sandy, UT where he began his career in banking as the founder of Draper Bank and Trust. He served as president and CEO until his retirement in 1996. His employees were his extended family and because of his great generosity and affection for them, he was unusually beloved as an employer. From 1974-78,

Dewey served as mayor of Sandy where he was instrumental in establishing a new City Hall, Sandy Chamber of Commerce, a new hospital (Alta View), a Senior Citizens Center, and many other improvements for the city. In recognition of his years of service, the city council named The Dewey Bluth Park in his honor. Throughout his life Dewey sat on the boards of many local, state, and national banking associations.

Dewey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joan Bluth; daughter,

Rebecca; son, Vincent; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister, Ione. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two

sisters.

Funeral services will be held Mon., May 19, at 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. Friends may call on Sunday, May 18, from 6 -8 p.m. and on Mon., one hour prior to services.
