Bailiff kills gunman who opened fire inside Fla. courthouse

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Officials say a bailiff shot and killed a gunman who opened fire in the lobby of a courthouse in St. Petersburg, Fla.

They say another bailiff was shot in the shoulder in Wednesday's gunfire.

Pinellas County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Bordner says the man opened fire after approaching a security checkpoint near the entrance of the downtown courthouse.

Authorities have closed the courthouse.

Pinellas County Clerk of Court Ken Burke says it's lucky no one else was hurt. A member of his staff emerged from an elevator just as the shooting was unfolding.
