Uarda Bass Hodges

Uarda Bass Hodges, 97, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2008 from causes incident to age.Uarda was born on September 7, 1910 in Cazenovia, New York to Edgar Charles and Elizabeth Knowles Bass. At the age of 3 months, she and her family moved to St. Cloud, Florida. In 1923, the family moved to Ft. Myers, Florida, where Uarda graduated from Ft. Myers High School in 1928. In 1929, she moved to Miami, Florida and was employed as a bookkeeper at Pereno Engineering from 1930 to 1949. In Miami, she met and married Roy Morrison Hodges in 1935. They moved to Coral Gables, Florida in 1951 when their son was born. Following Roy's death in 1971, Uarda moved to Orem, Utah where she helped her son run a music copying and contracting service, Dayman Music, from 1972 to 2002. She loved her association with musicians and composers, and will be remembered as a great cook, a gifted bookkeeper, a dachshund lover, a devoted mother, grandmother and friend.
She is survived by her son, William Kennedy Hodges (Janeal); five grandchildren, Amanda Guidry (William), Jennifer Stemmons (John), James Hodges (Diana), Kendra Wright (Nathan), Andrew Hodges (currently serving an LDS Mission in Montevideo, Uruguay); and by 9.75 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her niece, Brenda Linehan of New Smyrna, Florida. Uarda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Gladys Saunders and Mary Johnson.

A viewing will be held Saturday, June 14, 2008, from 1:00-1:45 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street, Murray, Utah. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Elysian Burial Gardens, 1075 E. 4580 S.
