Robert Williams Darger

1924 ~ 2008

Bob Darger, 83, passed away June 28, 2008, due to complications from Parkinson's.He was born August 20, 1924 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the third of five children to Eva Williams and Perry Stanford Darger. He grew up in the Avenues; he attended Wasatch Elementary School, Bryant Junior High, East High School and the University of Utah.

At the "U" Bob joined Beta Theta Pi fraternity and was very active in student affairs. He was elected Student Body Treasurer and President of the Men's Association. He served in the Navy during World War II as an Electronic Technician's Mate and was posted in the Philippines at the end of the war. After returning he attended the U of U and graduated with a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1947.

Bob married Frances Johnson on May 28, 1948 and they are the parents of three children, Peggy Darger Sacher (Richard), Amy Darger Stewart (George), and

William (Jennifer), who survive him.

Bob was active in the Electrical business as a Manufacturer's Representative and he served a one-year term as President of the Intermountain Electrical Association in 1964. He also served as the Utah State Director for the American Field Service (A foreign exchange program for high school students). Bob also became a member of the Salt Lake Rotary Club, which he thoroughly enjoyed until ill health forced his

retirement.

Bob enjoyed many trips over the years including Rotary Convention travels to Mexico, Scotland, Singapore, Australia and Buenos Aires. He truly loved trips with his 12 grandchildren, Rachel Mariucci (Joe),

Michael Stewart, Hailey, Ben, Ivy, Gabe and Will Darger, and his first great-grandchild, Kate Rebecca Mariucci, and beloved AFS exchange student, Maya Leon Meis (Tom). He is also survived by his wife, Frances, his brother, Stanford (Arlene) and two sisters, Evalyn Bennett (Wallace) and Marion Woolf (Charles); as well as many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 5th, 11 a.m. at the Emigration 4th Ward Chapel, 589 E. 18th Ave., Salt Lake City. Friends may call Fri., July 4th from 5-7 p.m. at the Garner Funeral Home, 1001 11th Ave, Salt Lake City, and from 9:30- 10:45 a.m. at the Chapel prior to the services on Saturday.

The family wishes to express appreciation for all the marvelous caregivers at the Utah State Veterans Home that took great care of Bob.
