CLEARFIELD — Come spring, residents should have a better fishing experience at Steed Pond thanks to an agreement with the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
The Clearfield City Council passed a resolution Tuesday that puts DWR in charge of managing the fish population at the pond, which has been fished in for decades, city manager Chris Hillman said.
The city is currently investing $50,000 to improve access to the site, spruce up a trail system and rid the pond of reeds, concrete blocks and garbage.
"We were able to make some incredible improvements before winter hit," Hillman said.
Final improvements are expected in the spring.
State fishing rules apply at Steed Pond, meaning anglers age 12 and older need to have a fishing license. Fishing limits also apply at the pond.
Steed Pond, near 300 S. 1000 West, will be the 38th community fishery in Utah and the eighth in Davis County.
Clearfield is also home to Mabey Pond, another community fishery, which can be accessed at 310 S. 500 East.
Steed Pond was privately owned until 2008, when Clearfield bought it to preserve it for storm water retention, Hillman said.
