When the Circuit City store closed in Sugar House, some members of the Sugar House Community Council thought the now-empty store would be a good home for the Deseret Industries' Sugar House store, which had outgrown its space some years ago. When the D.I. submitted a redevelopment proposal to Salt Lake City for use of the Circuit City building, the Sugar House Community Council made suggestions to improve the project so it would comply with the master plan and our vision for Sugar House.
The D.I. made some, but not all, of those changes. When the Planning Commission approved the plan, it added to the conditions of approval, bringing the new proposal in line with the master plan. The D.I. once again revised their plans and received full approval to go forward with the new store from the Planning Commission on Oct. 14. We have to give Deseret Industries, and the LDS church, a big round of applause for their efforts to stay in Sugar House. We know this will be a terrific re-use for this empty building. The Sugar House Community Council, and our residents, thank them very much!
