A pair of school bus accidents resulted in two people going to the hospital with minor injuries and left a lot of crunched metal to pick up.

Police say that in each case, the bus driver was at fault, but they do not believe either of the accidents was caused by weather conditions.

The most serious accident occurred about 6:50 a.m. when a bus from the Jordan School District made a left turn in front of a garbage truck that had the right of way at the intersection of 9800 South and Redwood Road, said South Jordan Police Sgt. Elyse Charter.

The front end of the bus was clipped. The impact sent the garbage truck into a third large vehicle, a water truck, which in turn was propelled across four lanes of traffic into a group of trees in front of a medical facility, Charter said.

Two elementary-school students and the bus driver were uninjured. The drivers of the garbage truck and the water truck, a male and female both in their 40s, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, she said.

The bus driver was issued a citation, according to Charter.

A second accident involving a bus happened about two hours later. A driver trying to park a school bus in a lot near 590 E. 7200 South took a turn too sharply Tuesday and sheared a utility pole. The accident happened about 8:45 a.m., right after the bus driver had dropped off a full load of children at school. No one was injured. Police did not issue any citations.
