OGDEN (AP) — A northern Utah health department has made contact with a man who dropped off an injured bat that later tested positive for rabies.

The Weber-Morgan Health Department said Friday morning the man dropped off the bat at the animal shelter in Ogden on Monday. He said he found the bat while walking his dogs. He left without giving his name.

Lori Buttars, a spokeswoman for the Weber-Morgan Health Department, said the man contacted the department Friday afternoon after seeing media reports that they wanted to speak with him.

Buttars said the man indicated he used a stick to pick up the bat. Health officials told him about the bat's positive test for rabies.
