Boy Scouts from the Garden Grove California Stake recently competed in Scout games at Schoepe Scout Reservation at Lost Valley, in northern San Diego County, and won first place, according to David Price, second counselor of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Garden Grove California Stake.A team from the Laguna Niguel California Stake took second place.About 650 Scouts and 200 leaders from Orange and San Diego counties competed in a series of 15 events, including Scout skills competitions and sporting contests from orienteering and rifle marksmanship to a plastic bottle-rocket launch and mile run.The eight-day Scout encampment included guest speakers Peter Vidmar, 1984 Olympic gymnast and gold medalist, and David L. Beck, the Young Men general president."It was good," said Donald McGinnis, 15, who attended the encampment. "It felt good to win first place."
