DRAPER — A Draper Elementary student is in critical but stable condition after he was hit by a car while trying to cross the street after school.
The 7-year-old and a few other students darted across the street at a crosswalk at Fourth Street (950 East) and Pioneer Road when a car traveling 30-35 miles per hour struck the boy, tossing him more than 20 feet, Draper Police Sgt. Pat Evans said.
The boy was flown to Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City just before 4 p.m.
The children were just a few blocks north of school. Police said the other children slowed and stopped when they saw the car, but the victim was too far out in the street.
The driver was cited for failure to yield at a crosswalk, police said.
