Volunteer income tax assistance — Volunteer a minimum of three hours a week from through April 15. Help low-income families keep more of what they earn. Site locations vary across Salt Lake and Tooele counties. Hours are flexible. Positions include tax preparer, transmitter, greeter, interpreter and financial resource specialist. Training provided.

St. Mark's Hospital — Volunteers needed to work in the gift shop, intensive care unit, emergency department, labor and delivery and newborn intensive care unit. A variety of shifts available.

American Diabetes Association — Help is needed with the Diabetes Expo on Feb. 28. It is a one-day health fair dedicated to diabetes, healthy eating and active living. Volunteers needed to serve for four hours during the expo at the South Towne Exposition Center. Lunch and an event T-shirt will be provided.

Utah Food Bank Services — Volunteers needed to help the Utah Food Bank conduct a study in which it is participating. The study is sponsored by Feeding America. Volunteers will travel to food pantries to conduct surveys of the clients about why they use the emergency food network. The results of the national study, Hunger in America 2009, will be released in November and December and will be used by food banks, hunger advocates, policymakers and legislators across the nation. Volunteers will serve in teams. Spanish speaking abilities helpful but not necessary.

Camp Hobe — Volunteers needed for summer camp, June 7-12 for campers ages 6 to 12; June 14-19 for campers ages 12 to 19; and June 14-16 for campers ages 4 to 7. Positions include counselors, activity leaders, cooks, medical staff and lifeguards.

Accessible Homes Foundation — The Accessible Homes Foundation is looking for volunteers to be on its board of directors. Volunteers are needed who have experience running a nonprofit corporation, care about the dire need for accessible housing, can work on computers, want to help with fundraising or have other skills. Board members and other volunteers are asked to attend meetings and donate at least 10 hours a month. A variety of opportunities are available. E-mail contact@accesshomes.org for more information.

Volunteers of America — The Volunteers of America Homeless Outreach Program needs volunteers to sort donations, cook breakfast, lunch and dinner and assist with the youth street outreach program.

National Kidney Foundation — Volunteers are needed to help with the Kidney Early Evaluation Program, a kidney health screening to be held on March 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center, 1355 W. 3100 South, West Valley City. Rolling Meadows Elementary — The S.T.A.R. Program is a tutorial program sponsored by the Utah State Office of Education. It will teach you everything volunteers need to know to help children greatly improve their reading skills.

Globus Relief — Volunteers needed to help sort packaged medical supplies that are sent to other countries. This is a great project for groups. Health-care experience helpful.
