I am coaching the Churchill Junior High School Math Team. It has been meaningful to me because it was a junior coach who introduced me to problem-solving when I was in seventh grade. As my skills increased, I desired to coach others as I had been coached. I have learned that it can be difficult to teach students but also very rewarding. It is always fun to watch the looks of surprise on their faces as I teach them a new trick or shortcut. It's especially meaningful to see them take the initiative to learn more math on their own. When they succeed, it becomes all the more rewarding. I love coaching because it helps me to improve my own skills while also instilling a desire in students to achieve their potential.
