The search was world-wide and took seven months to complete, but on Friday, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir announced the appointment of Ryan T. Murphy as its new associate music director. Murphy will occupy the position left vacant when Mack J. Wilberg was appointed to the music director position in March 2008.

Murphy joins the choir with extensive choral conducting and professional music theater experience, including past positions as music director for both the Tuacahn Theatre in St. George and the Sundance Institute in Provo. He currently conducts six choirs in the Boston area, including two at the New England Conservatory of Music.

He earned a master's degree in choral conducting from Brigham Young University and will receive his doctorate in the same from Boston University in May of this year. He will assume his new position with the choir this summer.
