A former Park City real-estate agent was sentenced to six years' probation last week after being convicted of eight counts in an income tax fraud case.
Gilbert Ross Turner, 64, was also ordered to pay $27,000 in restitution as part of his sentencing last week.
In November, Turner was convicted of four counts of theft by deception and four counts of failure to render a proper tax return, all third-degree felonies. Utah State Tax Commission spokesman Charlie Roberts said Turner made fictitious business deductions that resulted in more that $10,000 in fraudulent tax refunds.
"The state vigorously investigates and prosecutes those who refuse to pay state income taxes or — such as in this case — actually steal funds designated for use in Utah's education system," Roberts said.
