"The Penguins of Madagascar," Saturdays, Nickelodeon
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Who didn't love those commando penguins in the "Madagascar" movies? Skipper, Kowalski, Rico and Private now have their own TV show and are part of Nickelodeon's Saturday morning lineup. Joining the penguins are the lemurs King Julien, Mort and Maurice. Each 30-minute episode features two adventures set in the Central Park Zoo.
WHAT WE LIKED ABOUT IT: The digital animation is pretty good and isn't far from the quality in the "Madagascar" movies. The episodes play like animated shorts and have much of the same humor found in "Madagascar" and "Madagascar 2."
AS GOOD AS THE MOVIES? No. The penguins and King Julien often had me and my kids laughing out loud in the movies, but not as much in the TV series. Also, King Julien says, "Shut up," a little too often, which prompted my 4-year-old son to comment that King Julien was being too mean to the penguins.
