Canyons School District officials just learned they will need to make a decision, according to legal requirements, on whether to offer the federal Social Security program to its approximate 2,500 future employees.
Canyons School Board discussed the issue during its study session Tuesday night.
Board members said they would like further information but indicated they would like to put the decision to a vote by district employee.
In November 2007, east-side residents voted to leave Jordan School District and form their own school district. The Jordan district division will be official July 1, 2009, with the west side remaining as Jordan District, and the newly named Canyons district existing on the east side.
