Two film students attending Brigham Young University have been named as Student Academy Award winners in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 36th annual competition.

Jed Henry and Glenn Harmon will participate in a weeklong industry seminar before learning their place in the rankings, but both are winners in the animation category, along with another student from UCLA. They are among nine other students from eight U.S. colleges and universities who will be awarded first, second or third place at a ceremony on June 13 at the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Henry and Harmon, who beat out other regional candidates with their animated shorts "Kites" and "Pajama Gladiator," respectively, will receive cash prizes for their work on the films up to $5,000. Past Student Academy Award winners have gone on to receive 37 Oscar nominations and have won or shared six awards since 1972 when the student category was created to support and encourage excellence in filmmaking at the collegiate level.
