LOGAN — Utah State received some excellent news on Sunday when prized quarterback recruit Chuckie Keeton made it known that he will be joining the Aggies next season.

Keeton is a 6-foot-2 dual-threat prospect from Houston, Texas, who has been clocked at a swift 4.58 seconds in the 40.

Keeton originally gave a verbal commitment to Air Force, but had a change of heart and reopened his recruitment. He took an unofficial visit to Logan earlier this summer and officially visited the campus a few weeks ago during the Utah State-BYU game.

"I just felt more comfortable with Utah State," Keeton said. "It's somewhere I can see myself spending the next four or more years."

Keeton also considered Nevada, UTEP, and Memphis.

One of the deciding factors was Utah State's top-notch engineering program.

"My family and I really liked the academic situation," Keeton said. "They have a really good engineering program up there."

Keeton was also very impressed by the direction the football program is headed. He said Utah State football is a program on the rise, and there are a lot of talented players on the team.

One player that will not be returning for Utah State next season is the senior quarterback Diondre Borel. That leaves an opening at the QB spot for the next 4 years that Keeton would love to fill.

"I would like to start, but I still have a lot to learn," Keeton said about the prospect of stepping into the starting roll next season. "Once I get in there and learn the plays and get the speed of the game, I feel I could be a valuable asset to the team."
