SALT LAKE CITY — Summit Materials, a Washington, D.C.-based building materials firm, has purchased three Salt Lake City companies involved in asphalt production, ready-mix concrete and construction.

During the last two months, Summit worked out details to buy Kilgore Paving and Maintenance, LLC, an asphalt production and paving company; Harper Companies' ready-mix concrete and construction assets; and Altaview Concrete, Inc., an aggregates and ready-mix concrete firm.

These firms will become part of the new Harper-Kilgore, LLC, which will be an integrated materials and construction firm.

Jason Kilgore, former owner of Kilgore Paving and Maintenance, will be president of the new firm. Scott Reynolds, former owner of Altaview, will be CEO of Altaview Concrete and will handle the former Harper ready-mix concrete operations.

"We are very pleased to form our third regional platform in Salt Lake City, Utah, through these acquisitions," said Summit CEO Tom Hill.

"Utah is an attractive business environment, and we are excited to establish a position in this market. Harper-Kilgore comprises many skilled and experienced employees and we are delighted to team up with companies of this caliber and would like to welcome them all into the Summit group of companies," Hill said. "Their top-class management teams and employees are a great addition to Summit."

The newly formed company will employ about 750 people.
