SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah has placed the local chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity on a yearlong probation.
According to the university, the probation comes after the U. investigated claims of intimidation of the fraternity's new members.
The yearlong suspension comes on the heels of the national Pi Kappa Alpha organization suspending the Utah chapter in November. The chapter will remain on administrative suspension for the remainder of the current semester.
"Among other sanctions, the probationary period will result in increased monitoring of the chapter and further University action should any additional violations of policy occur," according to a statement from the university.
Jordan Ganung, president of the U.'s chapter, told the Deseret News in November that the complaints were unfounded. A spokesman for the fraternity was immediately available for comment Monday.
