I was heartbroken to hear about the death of Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Georgian luger who died while training during the Olympics. What sickened me the most was seeing that NBC and other news affiliates were playing the video of his death over and over as people were preparing for the opening ceremonies. To make it worse, I opened the paper this morning and there was a large picture of Nodar just as he was about to hit the steel pole.
Just because we have the footage does not mean that we should air it. I think the media could use a little more restraint and have respect for this young man. Use that front page to publish what a great man he was. The story is no less without the graphic video.
