WHITEHORSE, Australia — Mormon missionaries hope a bit of elbow grease will strengthen its community ties and help the needy.

The Melbourne East mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day

Saints wants to put its flock to work by

engaging in group volunteering in the eastern suburbs.

The mission is searching for suitable short-term community projects to engage its members and 90 international missionaries.

Mission President Corey Lindley said he hoped the initiative would

benefit the community and help the missionaries integrate, as well as

break down misconceptions about the Mormon church.
