Edna Caroline Taylor Coates passed away peacefully March 22, 2010. Edna was born October 5, 1911 in Freedom, Utah, the daughter of Norman Lee and Elsie Lavina Christensen Taylor. She grew and thrived in a blended family of 10 brothers and sisters who along with her cousins were her best friends. Edna attended schools in Freedom and Moroni from where she graduated.
Edna married William (Bill) Coates in the Manti LDS Temple on October 4, 1933. They raised seven children. Edna worked alongside of Bill in the fields and also raised fruits and berries that she sold to people in town. She loved Maple Canyon and has many pleasant memories of family gatherings there. After Bill's death on September 11, 1980, Edna left her home in Freedom and moved to Moroni, bringing with her soil and seedlings from her beloved garden but leaving a lifetime of memories in Freedom.
Edna was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many church callings throughout her life including serving in the Manti Temple and in the Peoria Illinois Mission in 1985.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband Bill, her son Calvin, four granddaughters, and all of her siblings. She is survived by six children, Ralph (Myrna) Coates, Salt Lake City, UT; Gerald (Sandra) Coates, Moroni, UT; Sharon (Paul) Larson, American Fork, UT; Carla Coates, Holladay, UT; Wallace (Faye) Coates, Sandy, UT; Leslie (Tim) Keisel, Moroni, UT; daughter-in-law LaRue (Calvin) Coates, River-ton, UT, 23 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren, and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 29, 2010 at 12:00 noon at the Moroni LDS Stake Center. Viewing will be at the church Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and again on Monday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. Interment in the Moroni Cemetery.
