SALT LAKE CITY — A 19-year-old Orem man was killed in Afghanistan on Monday while serving with the U.S. Marines, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

Lance Cpl. Carlos A. Aragon died while supporting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to the 4th Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion in the Marine Forces Reserve base at Camp Pendleton, Calif. His body arrived at Dover Air Force Base, Del., Wednesday.

At the start of the Senate floor session Thursday, senators observed a moment of silence in his memory at the request of Sen. John Valentine, R-Orem.
