SALT LAKE CITY — A Hurricane man is charged with sending threatening letters to the Utah State Tax Commission, warning that if he's penalized, he will aggressively act against the commission in a manner similar to that in "The Bourne Identity," charges state.

Patrick S. Johnson, 47, signed and sent three letters to the Tax Commission office at 210 N. 1950 West in response to the commission sending him notice of unpaid taxes, according to charges filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court.

The first letter, received Feb. 2, states that the defendant is a very "ill-tempered man" and if it gets "ugly," he will make it "even uglier," charges state.

The second letter, received March 8, said, "For every $50 you take from me or add in penalties, four employees start to have serious problems," according to charging documents. "For every $100 you take from me or add in penalties, eight employees will have the same sudden problems."

The third letter states that the games will start Wednesday, that he's not "a crazy man" and does not "go around blowing things up or killing people."Johnson is charged with two counts of second-degree felony terroristic threat. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
