President Thomas S. Monson has said that he likes the quotation, "New
friends are silver, but old friends are gold."
__IMAGE2__On April 8, he met with one of his golden friends, Thelma Wooley Fetzer,
who turned 100 on that day.
President Monson and his wife, Sister Frances Johnson Monson, walked
into Thelma Fetzer's living room that afternoon, bringing with them not
only smiles and heartfelt birthday wishes but also warm memories gathered
during their long friendship that goes back more than 60 years.
Their association began even before the time President Monson was bishop
of Sixth-Seventh Ward in Salt Lake City's Temple View Stake from 1950-55. Thelma Fetzer's husband, Percy K. Fetzer, was a counselor in the stake
presidency. When he became stake president, he called President
Monson to serve as one of his counselors. Percy Fetzer passed away in
1982.See the full story on ldschurchnews.com.
