SALT LAKE CITY — A man stabbed a taco vendor Sunday after the worker told him he was from Guatemala, police said.
Kennard Baker, 20, approached the victim while he was working at a taco stand near 910 W. North Temple around 5 p.m. and asked where he was from. When the vendor said he was from Guatamala, he was stabbed in the right side of his chest with a "big knife," Salt Lake Police Lt. Mark Scharman said.
The victim, who is about 30 years old, was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in serious condition but was later upgraded to stable condition.
Baker fled on foot, but police caught up to him a half block away and also located a knife they believe is the weapon, Scharman said. He was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault.
