SALT LAKE CITY — For the second time in two months, the federal Emergency Unemployment Compensation program and the Federal Additional Compensation program that pays unemployed workers an additional $25 per week in benefits will lapse.

The programs are set to expire on Monday, April 5. EUC extensions are authorized by Congress, which is adjourned until Monday, April 12, for spring recess.

The Utah Department of Workforce Services said it will begin sending out notices to about 1,300 claimants per week, informing them that they have exhausted their regular unemployment insurance state benefits and are not currently entitled to any further benefits, including EUC.

In anticipation that Congress may pass an additional extension, unemployed workers also have been advised to continue to file their weekly claims for benefits even though no additional monies can be paid at this time. If the extension is granted, retroactive to April 5, unemployed workers may get paid for each week they have filed, provided they are otherwise eligible.
