OWINGS
MILLS, Md. — The Baltimore Ravens have selected tight end Dennis Pitta
of Brigham Young with the 114th overall pick in the NFL draft.
Pitta
was taken in the fourth round Saturday. He is the second tight end
drafted by the Ravens this weekend; they took Ed Dickson of Oregon in
the third round on Friday.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Pitta caught 221 passes for 2,901 yards and 21 touchdowns at Brigham Young. He was a finalist this past season for the Mackey Award as college football's top tight end.
The
24-year-old Pitta was the last of three picks the Ravens received in a
trade with Denver for Baltimore's first-round selection. This gives the Ravens some depth behind starting tight end Todd Heap.A former walk-on for the Cougars, he has served a two-year Mormon mission to the Dominican Republic.
