May 31 is the deadline for two writing contests — fiction and essay — by Irreantum, a literary journal dedicated to exploring Mormon culture.For the fiction contest, any unpublished fictional form up to 8,500 words will be considered, including short stories and excerpts from novels. For the personal essay contest, unpublished personal essays up to 5,000 words will be considered. In both contests, the entries must be related to the Mormon experience in some way.Two entries per person will be accepted in each contest, and awards are available for the top three.To enter, e-mail your entry as an MS Word, WordPerfect, or RTF file attachment to essaycontest@mormonletters.org (only electronic submissions will be accepted). In the subject line, please write Irreantum Fiction Contest or Personal Essay Contest, as applicable. Include the submitters name, contact information including address and phone number, and the submissions title in the body of the e-mail. Only the title should be on the manuscript, which should appear as a header on each page.Winners will be posted on Irreantums Web site, irreantum.mormonletters.org, on Aug. 31.
