SALT LAKE CITY — The League of American Bicyclists has awarded Salt Lake City silver status for its 2010 Bicycle Friendly Communities awards.
The bike advocacy organization had previously awarded Salt Lake City a bronze status award in 2007 but indicated a number of recent initiatives improved the city's status.
"The award is something that sort of validates all the efforts … over the last 25 years," said David Iltis of Mayor Ralph Becker's bicycle advisory committee. "The commitment to cycling as being part of a livable, sustainable city has grown substantially."
