At 94, Alice Holland counts four children, 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren among her accomplishments.Although Holland downplays the role she has played in the lives of her descendents, Debbie Millet, her youngest child, says her mother taught them by example."We learned service from all of the things she was doing for other people," Millet says. "We learned goodness from her. She was always so kind to everybody."Among members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alice is known as the mother of an apostle. Her second child, Jeffrey, is better known to LDS faithful as Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the church's Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.Latter-day Saints recognize members of the Quorum of the Twelve, along with the three members of the church's presiding First Presidency, as prophets, seers and revelators. Together the two leadership bodies govern and direct the worldwide church of 13.8 million members.Yet Alice humbly claims to have had no influence on her son's position."I don't take credit for him," she says. "He did it all himself."
