LAYTON — Rape charges have been filed against a former Northridge High School drama teacher who prosecutors say had sex with one of his students "numerous times."
Jeremy Page Flygare, 32, of Sunset, was charged with three separate counts of rape in connection with a sexual relationship involving one of his students. The 17-year-old girl's parents were out of town the weekend of March 27-28 and returned home to find the girl and Flygare, her theater teacher, sitting on the couch in the living room of their home, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Once the parents entered the home, Flygare picked up his jacket and left, saying that he was "sorry" as he went, the police affidavit states. Flygare was placed on paid administrative leave the next day and Layton police were made aware of the case on March 31.
Investigators believe the relationship went on for about a month, said Layton Police Lt. Garret Atkin.
In a later interview, the girl said she and Flygare had sexual intercourse 10 to 15 times in various places in Davis County, including once at the school, the affidavit states. Because Flygare was the girl's teacher, investigators and prosecutors say he violated a position of trust, making the relationship nonconsensual and warranting rape charges.
A judge issued a no-contact order in the case, court records state. Flygare's next court appearance is scheduled for June 28.
Calls to Flygare and his attorney were not returned Monday. Flygare is well-known in the local theater community, having recently participated as an actor and director in two productions with the Rodgers Memorial Theatre in Centerville.
