SALT LAKE CITY — Jared Norris, a 6-foot-2, 228-pound senior-to-be at Centennial High School in Bakersfield, Calif., has given the University of Utah football program an early recruiting commitment.

The middle linebacker, who made 110 tackles last season, plans to sign with the Utes in 2011.

"It's like a family atmosphere," Norris said while noting he felt really comfortable with the coaches and players at Utah.

Norris and his family attended last month's Red & White Game at Rice-Eccles Stadium while making an unofficial visit. Known for his speed and athleticism, Norris also plays tight end.

Besides Utah, Norris also drew recruiting interest from Oregon State, Arizona, Colorado State, San Diego State, Boise State and New Mexico State.
