"Steel Magnolias," May 7-June 5, Rodgers Memorial Theatre, 292 E. Pages Lane, Centerville.

The basis for the 1989 movie of the same name, "Steel Magnolias" is a journey to Louisiana. A stop into Truvy's Beauty Parlor will fill you with tears and laughter, as six Southern ladies — Miss Clairee, Annelle, Truvy, Ouiser, M'Lynn and Shelby — handle everything from the joy of first love to the grief of death.

"Annie, Jr.," May 7-9, Egyptian Theatre, 328 Main, Park City.

The Youtheatre program announces its production of a family favorite. Students will show off what they've learned in the technical apprenticeship program.

"Willy Wonka, Jr." Sandy Arts Guild, May 6-8, Mount Jordan Middle School, 9360 S. 300 East, Sandy.

A fun family musical that features the famous owner of a magical, mystical chocolate factory and the kids who visit. Complete with Oompa-Loompas and all the bizarre events in Wonka's magical world.

Shows are at 8 p.m. on May 6 and 7, and 4 p.m. on May 8. Tickets are $5-$8 (801-568-2787).

"Dead Man's Cell Phone," Wasatch Theatre Company, May 6-22, Rose Wagner Center, 138 W. 300 South.

Another imaginative play by new playwright Sarah Ruhl ("The Clean House," "Eurydice"). An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café. A stranger at the next table, who has had enough. And a dead man … with a lot of loose ends.
