Welcome to the new MormonTimes.com. Much like your favorite cereal boxes, the site has a new look, but the product has the same great taste (with some exciting additions).
MormonTimes.com has been a source for the latest Mormon news and perspectives since 2008, and that hasn’t changed. The site still offers stories from the weekly print edition of Mormon Times, as well as takes on Latter-day Saint living from our columnists and bloggers. We will continue to offer uplifting content you can trust.
In addition to our current content, we’ve added a few new features to make articles easier to find and to help you personalize your experience on the site:
Save Your Favorites, Share with Friends
Have you ever found an excellent article on the site but wished you could do more than just read it? We’ve created several tools to help you save, rate and share your favorites.
Begin by creating a personal account; it only takes a few minutes, and once you’re logged in, you have access to these new options:
1. Save it- At the bottom-right corner of every queue item and on every article page, there is a “Save” button. If you find a story you love, or you don’t have time to finish reading an article and want to set it aside for later, just click the “Save” button, and that story will be saved to your profile page. You can visit your profile page any time and access your saved items.
2. Rate it- Queue items and article pages also have a “Rate” button. Tell us and your fellow MormonTimes.com visitors what you think of a story by assigning it a rating of “inspirational,” “informative” or “insightful.”
3. Share it- In addition to a “Share” button on each article page, which lets you tell your friends about a story through Facebook, Twitter and e-mail, we have a new tool for fans of Facebook. The Facebook “Recommend” button appears at the top of every article page. When you click it, a link to the article is posted on your Facebook wall along with any comments you make about the article. It’s a great way to share your take on a story and keep your Facebook friends informed.
Try out the Tags
Are you interested in only seeing stories about a specific topic? Maybe you’d like to know about temples, church history tours or marriage. Whatever your cup of cocoa may be, you can find content about a particular subject by clicking one of the tags at the bottom of each article, which will display all stories associated with that tag.
Look for opportunities to create custom queues based on tags later in 2010.
Inspire Others with Your Story
We want you to contribute to MormonTimes.com. To gather your stories and perspectives, we’ve created a new section of the site called “YourTimes.”
In YourTimes, you can post current events, faith-related experiences, and articles about your other areas of expertise. Head over to YourTimes to become a Mormon Times reporter and contributor by submitting your stories.
Be Uplifted and Informed
MormonTimes.com has always offered content from LDS Church News and other official publications of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but now we’ve made it easier to find those stories and other church resources by featuring them in the new “From the Church” section. Here, you’ll find daily LDS Gems, the latest official church news and older conference talks we’ve showcased in “From the Vault.”
You’ll also notice the Mormon Messages videos in the right column of From the Church and on the homepage. Look for more inspirational videos coming soon to other sections of the site.
Make the Beta Site Better
MormonTimes.com is “in beta,” which means we value your feedback and want to incorporate your ideas. Expect to see improvements as we make changes based on your input. To share your suggestions with us, click here.
We’re excited to hear from you. Now get out there and explore!
