PRICE – Dominating distance events has been a staple of Park City's success in track all spring. Doing it again in the Region 10 meet at Carbon High on Thursday proved to be a winning formula for the Miners.
Park City claimed both team titles out of Region 10. The Miners scored 127 points to win the boys crown. Park City tallied 152 points to win the girls title. Wasatch was the runner-up for both team titles.
In the girls events, the Miners took the top four spots in both the 800 and 3200 meters and claimed the top three spots in the 1600. Freshman Emily Schmitt won the 1600 after finishing in 5:44.64 and the 3200 with a time of 12:33.05. Alison Williams won the 800 in 2:27.25. Another distance runner, Gillian Gorelik, did well in a short-distance event – winning the 400 in 1:01.34
In the boys events, Park City senior Carson Fugal swept the 1600 and 3200. Fugal won the 1600 in 4:50.10 and the 3200 in 10:51.10. The Miners also dominated in the sprints. Erik Walker won the 100 meters in 11.11 seconds and the 200 in 23.03. Blake Thorne took first in the 400 with a time of 53.87 seconds.
Other notable performers included Carbon senior Brock Morley and Wasatch senior Natalie Pennington.
Morley swept region titles in the hurdles – winning the 110 hurdles in 14.93 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 40.38. He also claimed victory in the javelin with a best throw of 138 feet.
Pennington won the 100 hurdles in 16.92 seconds and took first in the long jump after going a distance of 16 feet and 3.5 inches.
