After reading Charles Krauthammer's drivel about President Barack Obama supposed bragging about himself and not his country (July 11), I am amazed that he continues to be nationally syndicated. He fills his piece with the mundane that he, and he alone, seems to think proves something.
Take his quote from the president's comments last year in Strasbourg. "I believe in American exceptionalism, just as I suspect that the Brits believe in British exceptionalism and the Greeks believe in Greek exceptionalsim." Krauthammer then illogically concludes that if we are all exceptional then no one is! And implies that, therefore the president has impugned America and her exceptionalism! That conclusion is not logical. Each of us, citizens and/or nations, can be exceptional in our own individual way(s). The fact that I may be exceptional does not demean or make irrelevant my neighbor's exceptionalism.
Krauthammer's inescapable conclusion? The president is a narcissist!
May I suggest, that more likely it is Krauthammer who is the narcissist, wanting to see his byline regardless of what garbage he wants to pass as thoughtful commentary.
