"Talking with God: Conversations that Transform Daily Life," by Robert L. Millet, Deseret Book, $19.99, 133 pages.

Robert L. Millet had intended to write a much longer book.

Fifty chapters. More than 300 pages.

"I believed that such a vital topic was more than worthy of even a thousand pages," Millet wrote in the conclusion of his recently published book "Talking with God: Divine Conversations that Transform Daily Life" (and that statement is on page 126). "Gradually … I perceived that less would probably be more."

And he's right.

At 133 pages (plus the notes and index, so 149 pages total) is a reasonable size and doesn't seem daunting.

Using personal experiences, words of the prophets and other examples, Millet delves into topics like preparing to pray, why pray in the name of Jesus Christ, getting answers to prayers, what to do when no clear answers come, the trap of vain repetitions and what to do when you don't feel like praying. He also uses the Lord's Prayer, Enos' prayer, Amulek and Alma's teachings and many others from the scriptures to help simply delineate how those are applicable in busy lives.

It's simply presented and can take either a relatively short time to read or much longer time to study.

Millet is also right that prayer is incredibly important to our daily lives.

"Is there any miracle of man's devising that can equal what takes place when a simple prayer penetrates the veil separating us from God? I think not," Millet writes. "Is there any technological advance that can match the miracle that has been extended to us, the miracle of communion with the Infinite? Surely not," Millet writes.

"Talking with God" is available at Deseret Book and LDS bookstores.
